Art Fair / History Fair / Math & Science Fair
McKinley hosts a number of different subject-related fairs throughout the year. These fairs provide students with the opportunity to apply and display some of the subject matter that they have been learning during the year. All students are encouraged to participate in these fairs. In many cases, the fairs display a collection of work done be different classes during the year. The Math and Science Fair, in particular, highlights Science Fair Projects that students have carried out. Classes are welcome to submit math projects, as well, to demonstrate an advanced mathematical concept, etc.. This fair involves all grade levels at McKinley, although the lower grade levels (K-3) have more choices than just a science project. They may write animal reports, dinosaur reports, do a whole class science project, but some individuals do carry out a science project with support from their parents. Back-to-School Picnic Every year, before the start of school, the McKinley PTA hosts a Back-to-School picnic. This picnic provides families with the opportunity to meet the teachers, learn about plans for the coming year, visit school-related information booths, participate in a kindergarten orientation, purchase McKinley T-shirts, sign up to volunteer, and more. Notices about the picnic are sent out during the summer before the school year begins. Back-to-School NightBack-to-School Night occurs within the first month and a half of the start of school. This evening provides parents with an opportunity to meet their student’s teacher(s) and to see the work that they have begun to undertake. Sign-ups for parent-teacher conferences are generally available in each classroom on Back-to-School night. Typically, the PTA hosts the Scholastic Book Fair on these evenings providing an opportunity for families to purchase books at a tremendous savings, both for their home and their teachers. There is only a half day of school before this event. Dr. Seuss Tribute ![]() PUSD elementary schools celebrate the works of Dr. Seuss during the Dr. Suess tribute week. McKinley School typically puts on individual classroom/grade-level performances of Dr. Seuss’ works in the school auditorium. ![]() Parade of Banners During this annual event, Pasadena Education Foundation displays colorful banners throughout Pasadena as a symbol of support for our public schools. Local Pasadena businesses and organizations have an opportunity to partner with PEF and participate in this important campaign by underwriting a banner. The culminating Parade of Banners event is held at Paseo Colorado. Students demonstrate the pride they have in their schools with banners they have made thanking the businesses and organizations who support them. Red Ribbon Week Red Ribbon Week focuses on substance abuse prevention through a variety of site specific activities, such as poster contests, parades, sporting events, assemblies and fairs. |
