Welcome to McKinley School -- A 2007 Title 1 Achievement School and 2006 Bravo Award Winner!
Instrumental Music
McKinley School has a vibrant instrumental music program that is continuing to develop. In 2006, the instrumental music classes were extended to allow 1st and 2nd graders to learn violin. Beginning with violin, students learn basic musical skills- developing coordination and dexterity, understanding musical structure and notes, and gaining a sense of accomplishment by putting these pieces together to create music of their own.

By 4th grade, students are encouraged to experiment and discover their preferred instrument of choice. Mrs. Orlova, McKinley's instrumental music teacher, instructs students in classes dedicated to each instrument (flute, clarinet, trumpet, saxophone, and guitar).

Elementary school music classes are taught 45-60 minutes once a week, while junior high students are able to take instrumental music as a daily elective. Junior high students can also participate in McKinley's renowned African Drum group, which performs at public events around the city.
